Lakendra Lewis is a singer, actress, author and playwright who has performed onstage as both an amateur and a professional entertainer.

A native of Corpus Christi, Texas, Lakendra developed a passion for writing and storytelling at a young age but her first love was the theater. At age 14,  she  began appearing in numerous plays and musicals, garnering several local Best Actress awards,  as well as work in radio and commercials.

When she was 17, Lakendra was chosen to sing for former Vice President Dan Quayle during a brief stop in Corpus. That meeting lead to a chance to sing for state dignataries such as former Texas Govenor, Ann Richards and Phil Gramm. Lakendra also has shared a stage with Mary Wilson of the Supremes.
Yet  the desire to write never left, and Lakendra eventually took a job working as a news assistant for the Corpus Christi Caller-Times. While there, she received a fellowship to study journalism at the Freedom Forum Diversity Institute at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennesse. Upon graduating from the Institute, Lakendra returned to the Caller-Times and after a brief stint as a reporter, left the newspaper to pursue freelance journalism. Some of her stories include interviews with musicians George Jones and Taylor Hicks, as well as May Pang, author of the books, Loving John and Instamatic Karma: Photographs of John Lennon, and actor and radio personality, Pat Matthews, host of the Internet radio program, "Beatles-A-Rama."

But despite all of her talent and moderate success as a performer, inside, Lakendra felt spiritually empty, unworthy and unfulfilled. In 2002, she rededicated herself to the Lord and after five years of walking with Him, began to see herself not as people had labeled her but as God saw her....a beautiful diamond in the rough!

Receiving this revelation helped Lakendra to realize her true purpose in life, which was to use her talents not for her own glory, but to glorify God by helping other women find their true identity in Christ.  At the urging of the Holy Spirit, Lakendra quit her job in 2008 to go into full-time ministry, using her gifts to disperse the love of Christ, one diamond at a time.

“Every gift I have came from Jesus Christ and I want to use what He gave me to glorify Him and help spiritually empower women. I want to sing songs, perform skits and write stories that bring a message to people of just how much God wants a relationship with them.”

Lakendra recently became a published author and is currently at work on her second novel. She is also co-author of a children’s play, The Adventures of Quirkie and His Fantastical Fooma Jooma.

“If you’re a woman who wants to see what faith can do, read this book.”

In 2007, I published my first novel,  In His Time, a funny, semi-autobiographical story of how one young woman, through faith and the unknowing help of a reality TV star, grows  to discover who she is in Christ. All proceeds from the sale of this book are used to fund my ministry. Order your copy and refresh your faith!
